I'm an Atheist living with a JW, and we're actually doing very well.
I go with her for the one-or-more day conventions (actualle wnt to the international convention in Copenhagen this summer yyyyaaawn!).
Now, I can imagine how difficult it must be to have been a JW married to a JW and then no longer want to be an active witness. That must be really difficult.

I've recently concluded that even if there is a god then I wouldn't like to have eternal life - I just can't see how I should keep myself intertained. At some point you are bound to know and have tried everything.
So actually that's my answer should any jdub ask me that question.

so many do quote a scripture to make a point against an idea, yet i see that a number do not seem to believe in the bible's inspiration, anyway.

How would it be possible for someone(thing) not existing to inspire anything?
As my good ol' friend Richard Dawkins puts it:
"To explain the origin of the DNA/protein machine by invoking a supernatural Designer is to explain precisely nothing, for it leaves unexplained the origin of the Designer. You have to say something like "God was always there", and if you allow yourself that kind of lazy way out, you might as well just say "DNA was always there", or "Life was always there", and be done with it."
What I don't understand is that:
What logic is in a loving all knowing god creating a world that ends up being not that filled with love. If he is all knowing he should have been able to predict this shouldn't he (or she or whatever).
And if Adam and Eve where perfect then I'm not sure I want to be perfect. There weren't even able to follow a few simple rules.
Just for the record I'm not an angry, bored idiot that hates everything - it might sound that way. On the contrary I beleive in and look for the good in everyone - even my JW family-in-law ;)

My wife and I visited her JW parents last night. During the evening we saw the news on the TV and earthquakes was mentioned. My father in law said "That's a sign of that the end is near"
I really had to strain myself not to reply with "That's soooo not true! First of all statistics shows that the frequency of earthquakes hasn't gone up for centuries. And second of all the bible says the exact opposite of what you think in regard to those “signs”"
I didn't say anything - I wish I had.

it's been quite a while since the last time i was in here.. i don't know if any of you rememeber my story, but i'm a happy ung male atheist married to a lovely jw.... last week i attended the study group with my wife - the i-don't-know-what-he's-called-but-he's-visiting-the-study-groups-from-time-to-time was going to be there and there would therefore be coffee, cake and cookies after the meeting.
as i get along quite well with my wife's jw "friends" (some of them being my family in law) i attended the meeting just to take part in the social activities afterwards.. during the i-don't-know-what...'s speak at the end of the meeting he explained how telephone preaching could be used and blahblahblah... in the end he then said "so are any of you interested in trying that?
" - no reaction from anyone - not a nod, not a smile - nothing.

Ohhh, what a laugh. I would attend all study group meetings if I new that such an embarresing moment would happen every time.

once again we are admonished to stay away as some sites are deceptive in that they say they promote jw's...but be aware!!
they actually slander...slander the witnesses.. i can only assume they mean this board and the silentlambs site first and foremost - so if the elders weren't aware of these sites...they are now...the rest of us (barr me) are sitting there enthralled... .

I attended a one-day-convention with my JW wife last weekend.

People were warned against chat rooms. These were described as places that brakes up marriages (people meet and flirt). (I'm quite sure porn was mentioned too).
But I think WE know what they ment...
But actually they're quite smart. Typically only the husband OR the wife is interessted in computers/internet. (Most often the husband i think). So statements like the one above can make the not-so-frequent-user-off-internet part of a marriage suspicous, and perhaps questioning what his/her spouce is spending time on the internet for. This could make JW's looking on sites like this one (and not prepared to discuss it..) lower the activity...
What do you recon?

had a really interesting experience with a jw that came knocking on sunday and have to say that i couldn't have dealt with him as well as i did if it had not been for new found knowledge on the web and spending the last four months reading.
oh that's were you are definitely wrong he says i've studied the bible thoroughly and there are definitely no contradictions at all.
i say thank you for your time, very interesting chat but i find it laughable that anyone could say the bible is not full of contradictions.

I was wondering how you cope with the fact that she is a JW. And what are your religious belief?
Are you able to talk with her about WTS issues in a calm and mature way...or do you just leave the subject?
I myself am an atheist. I have never really discussed the JW issues with my wife, but I'm starting to feel ready to do so. One must be sure of the information one have, and have a plan for how to address an issue without sounding too judgmental (or attacking).
